Lake Tahoe - Day 2: The Lake

How would a trip to Lake Tahoe be complete without spending some time on the lake? We packed a picnic, endured the heavy traffic jams, and eventually made it to Sunnyside, where we rented a small motor boat.

There was an eclectic group of boating enthusiasts at the marina. I was a little worried about their driving skills.

We had four hours to cruise around the lake and enjoy ourselves.

(Captain Tom)

We drove out to a beautiful cove called Emerald Bay, the jewel of Lake Tahoe.

We (Tom) tied up the boat, Tom took a little swim with the ducks, and we had a nice lunch among the majestic cedars and pines.

We then motored up to the shore and saw Vikingsholm Castle, one of the first summer homes on Lake Tahoe. Vikingsholm is considered to be one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture.

Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe, is situated in the middle of Emerald Bay. A tea house on top of the island was constructed at the same time as the Vikingsholm mansion. The owner's of Vikingsholm would ferry guests to the island for afternoon tea.

We made the hour-long trip back to the marina, after we finally figured out where it was located.

It was a perfect day on the lake.
