The Farmer's Market

On Saturdays, there is a great farmer's market down the Embarcadero at the Ferry Building. We are having somewhat nice weather this weekend, so we decided to take a stroll to the market and enjoy the day. Along the way, there are a couple of interesting, public art installations. The first is Cupid's Span.

Next, is the Raygun Gothic Rocketship at Pier 14. It was designed to offer a vision of space travel circa 1930′s-1940′s science fiction. I was sad to learn that it is only scheduled to be on display until September.

Before the Rocketship was the Crouching Spider. Although I really liked the spider, I like the Rocketship better. I wonder what will be next!

And, there is always the functional art, the historic cable car.

Once we arrived at the farmer's market, we headed straight to our favorite food stand, Primavera. They have wonderful Mexican food, and are famous for their tamales, which you can get in local grocery stores. Unfortunately, they do not have a permanent restaurant like many of the food stands at the market do. If they did, we would be there all the time!

Tom and I like the chilaquiles best. Delicious!

As we sat on a bench overlooking the bay, eating our tasty food, a flock of pelicans flew over.

After we stuffed ourselves full, we walked around the market, where fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, and other treats are plentiful. Berries are now in season and I am getting spoiled to having them so available. I always miss them when they go out of season.

We wandered through the ferry building, which has some nice, specialty food shops, wine bars, and cafes.

Then, it was across the street to the artists' market, where we leisurely meandered through the booths of art, handmade jewelry, t-shirts, and other interesting creations.

We returned home with some fresh veggies and fruit, determined to be healthy and fit (at least until we get the craving to order pizza!)
